Schopenhauer and Romanticism

  • Exhibition Event
Was Arthur Schopenhauer (1788–1860) the “philosopher of Romanticism”?
He conceived his magnum opus, *The World as Will and Representation*, as a young man during the Romantic era and the period of German Idealism. The studio exhibition at the German Romanticism Museum focuses in particular on the Romantic context of his early years and aims to counter the all-too-popular image of the elderly Schopenhauer with a different, more modern one. The exhibition focuses on the themes of philosophy of nature, literature, music, and the poetry of India and the Orient, which had only just been discovered at that time.
