THE SWIPES
THE SWIPES from Frankfurt/Mannheim have been playing melodic punk rock with both British and American influences since 2007, featuring critical English lyrics and clear influences from well-known genre legends such as Leatherface, Snuff, the Ramones, Hot Water Music, and China Drum. Heavy walls of guitar form the foundation for captivating melodies, while the bass and drums pulse dynamically, relentlessly driving The Swipes’ fury forward. The trio takes a blunt stance on the many bitter issues of our time: the future and resources of the planet are being ruthlessly gambled away, with everything subordinated to the interests of power politics and the greed of economic elites and corporations. Whether it’s the dark side of globalization, the sell-off of water rights to major corporations, right-wing hate and fake news, Europe’s turning a blind eye to deaths in the Mediterranean, or ongoing environmental destruction—the band doesn’t just put a finger on the wound, but its entire fist. “Generation Slave,” the band’s third album, was already a system-critical soundtrack to the collective failure of this world.
