Themed Tour: “Three Frankfurt Families”

Spanning generations, this guided tour of our new permanent exhibition explores the history of three Jewish families from Frankfurt. The Senger family fled Tsarist Russia, held communist beliefs, and survived the Nazi years of terror right in the heart of Frankfurt. The historic rooms of the Stadtpalais tell the story of their former residents, the Rothschild family. How did they achieve their entrepreneurial success? What did their civic, diplomatic, and social engagement look like, which made them the most famous Jewish family of the 19th century? Finally, the tour turns to the related Frank and Elias families, whose history comes to life for the first time through privately owned artifacts and documents, thanks to a generous loan.
