Bible Experience Museum

  • Special Museum
How did people live when the books of the Bible were written? What significance does the Holy Scripture still hold today? This museum provides clear answers.
A literal “key” exhibit can be found on the museum’s ground floor. It is a key that was found in the first century A.D. in a bathhouse near Caesarea Maritima in present-day Israel. It was replicated for the Bibelhaus ErlebnisMuseum (BIMU for short) and is now used to open a vault door in front of the display case. In the same way, one can understand the entire museum: as a place designed to give visitors access to tradition, to the worlds in which people once lived, and to the contemporary meanings of the Holy Scriptures. In 2003, the BIMU was opened by the Frankfurt Bible Community in a former church near the banks of the Main River and has since displayed archaeological finds, explored themes found in the Bible, and offered interactive elements. Highlights include a replica of a boat from the Sea of Galilee, the nomadic tent as the place where the narrative tradition began, and the calendar stone from Priene dating from 9 B.C.
