World Hits in Hessian Dialect

Rock Music
“Here We Go Again”

Hessian is the language of love and poetry. Elis C. Bihn and Tilman Birr have realized this: Now they’re translating global hits from the last 140 years into Hessian and singing them for you. Why are they doing this? Well, you wouldn’t understand it any other way!
Anyone can write new lyrics. But who can translate “I come from a land down under” into “Isch komm aus de Näh von Darmstadt” and still stay true to the original text? Only these two mood-setting linguists with a bass, a guitar, and two voices.
Admittedly, the originals sometimes have absolutely nothing to do with Hesse, but as Minister President Georg-August Zinn said back in 1950: “A Hessian is anyone who wants to be a Hessian.” And even if we don’t know whether John Lennon, Prince, and Elvis Presley wanted to be Hessians—now they are.
